Why there is no Avengers movie in Marvel Phase 4

The Phase 1 of Marvel Cinematic Universe culminated in the 2012’s Avengers movie, solidifying the team as central to the universe. Phase 3 of MCU has recently ended, with its second last chapter being the Avengers: Endgame. Many were shocked to see absence of Avengers movie from Marvel Studios slate at Comic-Con San Diego, as strange as this may seem to longtime fans, there are several good reasons for that.

Avengers: Endgame was all about conclusions. Over 11 years of journey all characters development and stories were brought to varying level of closure with the fim, and stories of several major Avengers ended, notably Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow. Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege himself remarked at not wanting to have another Avengers movie so soon after Endgame to basically focus on new and existing characters.

As many of the old characters from the “Infinity Saga” are gone or have had their quos irrevocably changed, Marvel Phase 4 and Phase 5 will introduce new characters, Shang-Chi and The Eternals and even Blade. These charcters will explore new territories with Shang-Chi and The Eternals movie being some of the first mainstream appearances of those characters outside of the comics. It would be a lot harder for fans to get excited about these new concepts if Marvel was still forcing the universe to revolve aroung the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Big concepts like the Eternals would especially be roobed if they were used a stepping stones to set up the next Avengers crossover movie event, by allowing new narratice zones to be entered, Marvel can branch out, making its inevitable return.

Announcing another Avengers movie film so soon could have some pretty negative effects. For one, it might cheapen the events of Endgame, which really shook up the characters and universe. Reuniting the team so soon would undermine just how torn apart it was the end of the film. Secondly, Marvel Studios needs to make clear it can resamble a team made up of new, interesting and lovable characters, this means giving audiences time to know the nest generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

why there is no Avengers movie in Phase 4

Avengers founders such as Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye are still alive, and it’s totally possible they’ll play a role in the coming action. Thor is the only Avengers to get a fourth solo movie Thor: Love and Thunder in Phase 4, and he may also appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Hawkeye has got his Disney + show, which will feature Kate Bishop, potentially setting up his replacement. Hulk is slightly a different story, as the injury he sustained using the Infinity Gaunlet can in face be permanent.

There is also Wanda Vision featuring Scarlet Witch and Vision. Despite the fact that Vision is dead, the two are set to get their own Disney+ show, so there is great chance that they could get some role in future Marvel movies. Spider-Man is also a reocgnizable character who is still swinging around, so he clould potentially join new Avengers Team. Same for Captain Marvel and Black Panther. Using these characters in future projects will help give existing fans entry points into learning and loving new characters.

The Young Avengers may also play a role in the MCU post- Endgame, and waiting at least a few years to make this film would be the best and the most effective way to make that the new team felt to establish its characters first, which will definitely take few years. Both the real and cinematic worlds would need to miss Earth’s Mightiest Heroes before replacing them. By allowing viewers to see several movies and phases without the Avengers anywhere in sight. Marvel would ensure the next Avengers movie as an event. It will also be a great way to showcase further the most diverse part that Marvel seems to following on from here.

There also several characters that Disney acquired from Fox like X-Men and the Fantastic Four and several others. Marvvel mutants may be pushed to become the new focal team of the MCU, or they may share that role with the Fantastic Four, Kevin Fiege also teased Marvel Studios plans for both the teams, so they’re likely to make their way to MCU sooner rather than later, and with them comes a whole new world of possibilities.
